• When possible, avoid products with more than five (5) ingredients listed.

Food Labels

Start by reading the ingredients: The actual substances in the food are listed from greatest to smallest concentration.
• Ask yourself “How many servings am I consuming?”
– If you ate the entire package you would double all the calories and other nutrient numbers on the label.
Check The Calories: Fat Calories divided by Total Calories equals the percentage of fat the product contains.
– Are you shocked when you do the math?
Look at the Nutrients: Eating too much fat, saturated fat, Trans fat, cholesterol or sodium increases risk for certain chronic diseases.
Fact: Foods of plant origin do not contain cholesterol!
• Ask this question: “Are the sugars in this product naturally occuring or are they added?”
